Live from CEB Congress - Brussels to host 2011 Congress

The 2010 CEB Congress took place this afternoon in Stuttgart, where the Men's Senior European Championship A-pool, in which Belgium will be competing alongside Europe's elite sides, are to take place later this year.

At the occasion of its 75th anniversary in 2011, Belgium offered to host the CEB Congress next year in Brussels, which met unanimous approval from the 30 member Federations present. Belgium hence looks forward to hosting European Baseball in March 2011.

In parrallel to the Congress, a number of workshops took place under the auspices the various Commissions put in place by CEB a couple of years ago. The dynamic is starting to yield positive results and although the Olympic decision sends baseball worldwide in financial turmoil, confidence is building in a new tomorrow with a number of creative ideas and projects being shared. The Commission work is to keep increasing and Jérôme Legris, KBBSF-FRBBS President, was offered to join the CEB Marketing Commission, which he gladly accepted in view of contributing to CEB's effort in further building both awareness for the game and financial return for CEB and National Federations.

At its last meeting, the KBBSF-FRBBS Board confirmed ESF rules in English are the official rules to be used for National Competitions. These rules and recent changes are available in the 'Competition - Documents' section. A dutch translation is also provided (for reference only).

CUS is inviting representatives from all Softball teams to an information session on the new rules, by Gilbert Tobback. This session will be held on March 6 2010 from 11h-14h at Antwerp's House of Sports (Boomgardstraat, 22, Berchem 2600).

Extraordinary General Assembly ratifies updated Statutes

This was the closing step of a major undertaking over the last 3 years to modernize the Federation's organization, its working rules and stakeholder relationships.

Brussels Sports Association Donates Uniforms, Jackets for Belgian Champions

Good news! The Brussels Sports Association, which runs expatriate youth baseball in Brussels, has donated a set of "Belgium" uniforms and jackets to the Belgian Federation.

The winners of the 11-12 division will get these unis to wear at the European Championships in Poland. Uniforms are a major expense, usually costing a few hundred euros.

This exciting news means cost should not be an obstacle to any kid participating in his or her regional All-Star team. Room & Board are free in Kutno, so the only remaining expense for the kids is the bus ride.

Extraordinary General-Assembly 19.2.2010

With the aim of completing the last phase of the major Statutes updates undertaken over the past couple of years, the KBBSF-FRBBS Board has invited all clubs to take part in an Extraordinary General-Assembly next Friday February 10 2010 in Brussels.

KBBSF-FRBBS Statutes update proposal

Participation of all clubs is mandatory. Each club representative will have to present an official mandate. Clubs that cannot be present must give a procuration mandate to another club. Each club can only hold 1 procuration mandate for another club.

Belgium Softball - Clinics with Shan McDonald

The former University of Nevada, Las Vegas Head Coach and former China Olympic Team Head Coach Shan McDonald is due to visit Belgium once again this year.

Little League - Stands for Local Level

Dear Belgian ballplayers, ballparents, ballcoaches, ballfans,

As Little League director, I am not organizing any players, teams or coaches in 2010 or 2011 or 2035.

You are.

(What am I doing? Running between 1 and 8 exciting Belgian all-star tournaments -- as many as possible -- in July and then packing the winners off to Poland.)

VBSL and the clubs are still running youth championships.

In every region (Brussels, Wallonia, Flanders East and Flanders West), folks need to pick coaches. Then, in June (but not before, that’s not allowed), coaches need to pick players. Then coaches and parents need to organize practices, so they can try to win the Belgian championships, then the European championships, then the World Series.

Again there are four age categories, valid for baseball and softball. Little League (11-12), Junior League (13-14), Senior League (15-16), Big League (17-18). Age is as of April 30, 2010. Right now, the only age category where I’m sure we’ll have a team representing every region is Little League baseball, the 11-12-year-olds. We’ll have a 4-team tournament in Merksem, July 9 to 11.

What about the other age categories?

That’s up to you! Let’s say Beveren has 8 great Senior League (15-16-year-old) players. Only they in Belgium are motivated to field a team. Well, a coach from Beveren can set up a team and pick a few other players from Flanders West (see list of clubs below). That team – if Brussels, Wallonia and Flanders East don’t organize squads of their own – automatically advances to the European championships! But let’s say Brussels also organizes a Senior League team. Well, then Flanders West and Brussels would play a best-of-3 championship series to determine the Belgian champion. But if you don’t organize these teams, they won’t happen.

The same goes for softball. Coaches at the local level can organize an all-star team with players from their region. That team can then – if there are no opponents in Belgium – automatically advance to the European championships! Or they play against 1 or 2 or 3 other Belgian teams.

That’s why Little League stands for Local Level.

Smoking banned from clubhouses

New legislation regarding smoking is being enforced since January 1, 2010.

Please remember that smoking is strictly forbidden in sport clubhouses. In addition, non-smoking signs are to be clearly visible and of course no ashtrays should be available.

Little League - A note concerning player eligibility

Any player who plays 60 percent of his or team's regular season schedule is eligible for their region's all-star team. Most regular season youth games in Belgium in 2010 will be organized by the VBSL, but teams and clubs can organize games outside the regular competition. For example, Namur could play Louvain-la-Neuve on a Wednesday afternoon, or could organize a game on a Friday night between its two minimes teams. Those games would count toward the Little League schedule.

Belgium Little League National Championship Tournament is set!

It's official. We have our first tournament scheduled.

The 11-12-year-old Belgian Championship will be held in Merksem, July 9 to 11. Any boy or girl participating in the VBSL championship or the Brussels Sports Association is eligible. This is for kids born between May 1, 1997 and April 30, 1999. Please note: All-Star teams may NOT be announced before June 15.

KBBSF mourns past President Marcel Knuyts

A memorial service will be held this Saturday Dec. 19 at 9h30 at H. Familie Elsdonk church, Kerkplein, Edegem.

MLB endorses Belgian Baseball Academy

In an official letter received today by KBBSF, MLB officially endorses the Belgian Baseball Academy (BBA), jointly run in close cooperation between VBSL and LFBBS under the auspices of KBBSF.

This symbolic recognition follows a meeting between BBA Coordinators (Filip Van der Meiren and Jérôme Sana) with MLB Game Development Manager Jason Holowaty at the annual EBCA Clinic recently held in Brussels. At this occasion, KBBSF President Jérôme Legris confirmed the Federation's full support of this joint collaboration between both Leagues 'under one roof'. Also present was Tom Gillespie, MLB Academy Coordinator, who praised both Filip and Jérôme for their program and dedication.

Congratulations to BBA Coordinators for this achievement. Let it be a springboard for the BBA to grow further in the development of our young talents.

Vermits er vanuit de werkende leden geen interpellaties werden ingediend conform art 5.3. van het H.R. zal de Raad van Bestuur conform art. 18 van de Statuten eerstdaags de agenda van de algemene vergadering van 27 november 2009 vastleggen. Conform hetzelfde artikel zullen de leden eerstdaags per brief worden uitgenodigd tot deze Algemene vergadering. We herinneren de vaste leden eraan dat aanwezigheid op de algemene vergadering een verplichting is waar bij afwezigheid een boete op vermeld staat van 250 EURO conform art H.R. 5.4.

Vu qu'aucun membre effectif n'a demandé d'interpellation conformément à l'art. 5.3 du R.O.I., le Conseil d'Administration FRBBS établira l'ordre du jour de l'Assemblée Générale du 27 novembre 2009 comme le prévoit conforme l'art. 18 des Statuts légaux.
Conformément au même article, les membres effectifs (Clubs) seront invités par lettre ordinaire à cette Assemblée.
On fait remarquer que les membres effectifs sont tenus d'être présents à l'Assemblée Générale. En cas de non-représentation, le membre effectif encoure une amende de € 250

Doping - Medication control

Following 2 recent cases, the Technical Commission would like to remind all players to make sure they carefully check with their doctor and/or pharmacist to check on any potential conflict between prescribed medication for the purpose of healthcare and practice of competition sport in terms of prohibited substances related to doping.

If you are taking any medications that may include banned substances, please make sure to declare your prescription as soon as possible upon a doping control. If possible, it is best to have a copy of your prescription with you during practices as well as competitions.

SOFTBALL - Great victory

Parallel to the European Softball Championships A-Pool in Valencia, Spain, which saw the Netherlands win the title with a 4-0 shutout over Great Britain in the finals, the B-Pool Championships took place in Hoboken, Belgium. Host Belgium clinched first place with a 10-1 win in five innings over Sweden. Croatia took third, while Israel came in at fourth. Nathalie Hoster picked up the best batter award, Veronique van Braeken was named best pitcher, while Patty van Wymelbeke received the MVP trophy.

Coupe d'Europe de Softball Masculin en direct sur internet

Les organisateurs de la Coupe d'Europe des Clubs Champions de Softball masculin, à laquelle participera Chicaboo's Stabroek, viennent d'annoncer la retransmission intégrale de la compétition sur internet.

COMMUNIQUE DE ORGANISATEURS

"Le comité d'organisation de la Coupe des Clubs Champions Européens de Fastpitch Hommes 2009 a signé un accord très important avec CBL Channel pour la diffusion de tous les matchs de l'événement qui aura lieu du 24 au 29 août sur les terrains de Castions di Strada et Bagnaria Arsa.

Par l'intermédiaire de cette société, qui travaille depuis longtemps dans ce secteur et qui suit également le championnat de foot à 5, il sera possible de voir en direct streaming tous les matchs du tournoi. Aussi, on aura accès à toutes les interviews avant et après les matchs et à l'émission « ECM Day » pendant laquelle les protagonistes discuteront des moments importants de la journée.

CBL Channel garantira aussi la transmission des images de la cérémonie d'ouverture et de clôture et rediffusera les matchs 24h/ 24h.

De plus, la finale sera diffusé sur une des chaines Sky avec une programmation en cours de définition pour ce qui concerne les horaires mais qui sera rediffusée au moins pendant les 4 jours suivants.

Belgium practices succesfully against Great Britain

During the weekend of 30-31st May, the Belgium Juniors and Seniors played against Great-Britain as part of their preparation for the upcoming European Championships. Both coaching staffs were extremely pleased with the results over the 2 days which brought good competition at both sides. Also the intra-squad between the Juniors and Seniors was a game with good sportive ingredients for the Belgium coaching staff.

The Juniors will continue their preparation with 2 training camps in July before they leave off to Bonn for their EC.
The Seniors will practice after the club EQs every Tuesday till their participation in the Rouen Open from Friday 24th till Sunday 26th July.

The Organizing Committee will meet February 6 in Frankfurt

Lausanne -- The International Baseball Federation (IBAF) and the Local Organizing committees (LOC's) of Italy, Holland, Germany, Sweden, Czech, Spain and Russia will meet this Friday in Frankfurt, Germany to finalise plans for this Sepotember's Baseball World Cup. Final venue and ticketing plans, media coverage, new media planning and credentialing and player rosters are all expected to be discussed during the meeting, with an announcement on next steps to follow on Monday.

"As we have already seen with our German ticket-sales and with the interest in Italy, the excitement for the Baseball World Cup is building, and this meeting will give us the perfect opportunity to get all our venues up to speed so that we can have the best possible event this fall," said IBAF Secretary General John Ostermeyer.

First round games will be held in Moscow, Prague, Sundyberg (Stockholm), Regensburg, Germany and Barcelona Spain starting on 9 September. The second round will be split between Italy and the Netherlands, while the final round will be in Italy on 27 September. In total, 22 nations will compete for the coveted world championship.
